On behalf of the YMCA of Canberra I'd like to invite you to be a part of our inaugural ACT Youth Parliament.
The ACT Youth Parliament brings together young people aged 15 - 25 from the Territory and beyond.
This year participants will stay in the Canberra CBD in July 9th to the 13th of July, spending time speaking on bills in the ACT Legislative Assembly. They will also participate in events with politicians, policymakers, and key players from industry and the union movement at Australian Parliament House, the High Court of Australia, and the National Library.
A short list of some people attending YPACT this year:
- Dr Richard Denniss, Managing Director of The Australia Institute
- Paul Howes, National Secretary of the AWU
- Kim Sattler, Secretary of UnionsACT
- Senators including Kate Lundy, John Hogg, and Gary Humphries
- MHRs including Andrew Leigh and Gai Brodtmann
- MLAs including Shane Rattenbury, Joy Burch, and Alistair Coe
And many, many more.
The Youth Parliament represents a formidable weapon in the arsenal of young people involved in the political process - a forum for forging the opinions of youth into a form both strong and sharp enough to capture the attention of those in power.
The program is also undergoing DET accreditation as Registered Unit, contributing to the Year 12 Certificate.
