Youth Parliament is a program for young people by young people. The Taskforce has the responsibility of organising the program and is made up of young people under the age of 25. Outside input into the program is consultative and supports the philosophy of youth participation.

Youth Parliament is an apolitical program; the Youth Parliament Program does not subscribe to any political point of view and its operations reflect this.

The fundamental goal of Youth Parliament is to provide quality youth opinion in the form of bills and motions of public importance to government. Every aspect of the program is geared toward the development of the highest quality bills and most considered and passionate debate in order to present the views of young Australians to those in power.

Youth parliament is open to any young person between the ages of 15 and 25. Youth Parliament represents the diverse range of young people in the Australian Capital Territory.
