After all the Youth Members are appointed, two months prior to the camp, a day long training session is held at the National Library of Australia (NLA). This year this session is likely to be on either the weekend of the 5th or 12th of May. During this session participants are divided into their committees and parties, are trained in the writing of bills, and elections for the four key positions on either side of the House (Chief Minister/Leader of the Opposition, Leader of the House/Manager of Opposition Business, Government/Opposition Whip, and Deputy Leader of both sides) are held.

In the period post-event Youth Members write their Bills collaboratively online, and during occasional bill writing sessions organised at the NLA. On completion, these Bills are compiled into the YP Book.
